Oromocto, New Brunswick – Corporal Holly Raeanne Melanson and Master Corporal Michael Webber, members of 3 Intelligence Company, recently completed their junior leadership qualification at the 5th  Canadian Division Training Centre at 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown in Oromocto, New Brunswick.

Cpl Melanson was awarded top candidate of the course and led the graduation parade.

The junior leadership courses ran from April 24 to Jun 22, 2017. The army junior leadership qualification is broken down into two different courses; the Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) and the Army Junior Leadership Course (AJLC). Candidates are taught the fundamentals of leadership through various assessments.

Both members were well prepared to attend the course. MCpl Webber did admit, however, to having some concerns before he started the course.

“I was a bit intimidated at the thought of attending PLQ at age 46, and as it turned out I was the oldest member on course,” said MCpl Webber.

His concerns quickly disappeared when he realized the members of his section worked together effectively. “Without a doubt, the best group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.”

Cpl Melanson strived to do her best work for every assignment. Her highlight of the course was earning top candidate. “It was nice to have been noticed for my hard work, dedication, perseverance, and professionalism throughout the course.”

Major James Foote, Commanding Officer of 3 Intelligence Company, is pleased to be gaining two new junior leaders. “This course represents a key milestone in the development of leadership responsibilities and expectations and the future development of senior Non-Commissioned Officers.”

Congratulations to Cpl Holly Melanson and MCpl Michael Webber, two new leaders for 3 Intelligence Company and the Canadian Armed Forces.
