Daily Performances

The Changing of the Guard ceremony

Daily at 10 a.m.

  • July 6 to August 24 – Parliament Hill

There will be no Changing of the Guard ceremony on Tuesday, August 20. On that day, the Ceremonial Guard will provide the Guard of Honour for the Change of Command ceremony for the Canadian Army on Parliament Hill at 10 a.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Change of Command ceremony.

Rideau Hall

Ceremonial sentries are posted at Rideau Hall daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 23-August 23  and 9 to 11 a.m. August 24.

Role

The Ceremonial Guard performs public duties in Ottawa annually from late spring to the end of August.

The public duties of the Ceremonial Guard include:

  • Posting Guards at the residence of the Governor General of Canada;
  • Performing the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony on Parliament Hill;
  • Providing daily sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial through the National Sentry Program;
  • Providing Guards of Honour for visiting heads of state or other dignitaries;
  • Participating in official public or military functions in the capital; and
  • Performing during public concerts or other ceremonies to promote the CAF.

Rideau Hall

The Ceremonial Guard mounts the Guard of Honour for the Governor General on Canada Day and performs extended public duties by providing an overnight presence at Rideau Hall during visits by members of the Royal family.

Fortissimo

Fortissimo is a military and musical spectacular of the Canadian Armed Forces which takes place ever summer on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Admission is free. Details about the current season are available here.
